5 tips to lower your gas bill
Is it cold outside? Then you will turn on the heating. These tips will save you money:
Tip 1 Turn the thermostat down before you leave
A well-insulated house cools down slowly. This is why you should lower your thermostat an hour before your departure or before you go to bed. 13 or 15 degrees is usually fine. This will save you 5% energy. That is about € 40 per year.
Please note: do you have underfloor heating with, for example, a heat/cold storage or heat pump? Then it is important to keep the temperature as constant as possible. Because it takes a long time for the temperature to change. Do not turn down the temperature for a period shorter than 24 hours. Make the desired changes in temperature slowly: a maximum of one degree per 24 hours.
Tip 2 Make sure your home is well-insulated
Do not let warm air get out in the winter. Keep the interior doors closed and draw the curtains in the evening to keep your home warm. Open the curtains during the day, so the sun can heat up your home. Place radiator foil behind the radiator if it is placed in front of an outside wall. This insulation will save you € 13 per year.
Tip 3 Keep the radiator clear
Give radiators the space they need to dissipate their heat. So no sofas or long curtains in front of the radiators. This will save you € 100 per year.
Tip 4 Use a Timer Thermostat
With a Timer Thermostat you can set when you are at home and when you are not. And what the temperature should be. Such a Timer Thermostat is a one-time investment that will quickly pay for itself.
Tip 5 Turn it down one degree
Set your thermostat 1 degree lower during the day. This saves you an average of 7% on your heating. Are you getting cold? Then turn up the thermostat or put on a sweater first. An average household easily saves € 60 a year this way.
